ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Dave Matli founded Matli Group after working for over 13 years in the marketing communications world. He has worked on some of the largest brands in corporate America within specialized niches ranging from advertising, licensing, marketing, and online user interface design.
Even before graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and entering the advertising world, he had already designed product packages, signage systems, marketing collateral and sales materials for companies as far ranging as Disney Consumer Products, Kaiser Permanente, Northrup Grummon and Sunkist Growers. After working as an art director at WongDoody in Seattle on rebranding for the NBA Sonics basketball and advertising campaigns for Alaska Airlines, Dave won a Clio Award and a Young Guns International award for some televisions spots he created.
Moving from advertising, Dave worked briefly in interface design, crafting front-end portals for Earthlink Networks and several e-commerce sites before finally settling into the licensing industry. Dave joined Fox Family Channel to work on Fox Kids worldwide marketing and eventually discovered product design with the Power Rangers and Digimon brands. After freelancing on other licensed properties he was hired at Warner Bros Consumer Products, where he and his boss were charged with rebranding the Harry Potter franchise before the release of Harry Potter 3. After the successful relaunch of the brand, Dave moved to New York where he became Design Director, Global Consumer Products at Sesame Workshop, tasked with rebranding their home video business and eventually became the creative lead on new business development for Sesame’s licensing business.
With the help of an early investor who had a PhD and was able to quantify and systematize the critical consumer and brand data gathering processes needed to create potent, targeted creative executions, Matli Group was established as an all-encompassing marketing and creative services SWAT team for the licensing industry in 2006. With initial projects from Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox, Matli Group&aspos;s reputation has grown and Dave has been able to introduce its unique results-oriented processes to many new clients and industries.
